Wim Wenders pays tribute to the legendary choreographer Pina Bausch, who died in 2009, and to her innovative work with the Tanztheater Wuppertal company. Long-time members of the troupe recreate classic scenes for the big screen, then outside the theatre, in the city of Wuppertal.

Russia, in the 90s. Driven from childhood by the rigor and demands of Professor Bojinski, Polina is a promising classical dancer. As she is about to join the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet, she attends a contemporary dance performance that deeply moves her. It's an artistic shock that shakes everything she believed in. She decides to leave everything behind and joins Aix-en-Provence to work with the talented choreographer Liria Elsaj and try to find her own path.
